Following his early childhood education at Glenstal Abbey School, David Leahy attended University in England where he graduated at the top of his class becoming a member of both the Royal Institute of British Architects and also a member of The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland. Upon qualifying David returned home to Ireland where he established his Award Winning Architectural Design Practice in 1997.

From the very beginning, David has been dedicated to his true passion for “One off House Design”, as well as full extension / refurbishment works to existing homes. Over the years he has gained a reputation for true excellence in this area of Architectural Commissions. In 2005 David Leahy moved to his new offices at the prestigious “Riverpoint” building in Limerick, overlooking the River Shannon. David designed the office interiors himself, using his own personal collection of Art & Collectable Objects as the background concept for the overall theme design. Instead of the typical sterile office environment David wanted a tranquil bespoke design setting, where clients could feel comfortable and relaxed, in the knowledge that they are guaranteed a high end design Architectural Services, thus achieving their ultimate goals for their dream home.

Every clients brief is different and their budgets differ greatly, David is fully aware of this important fact having designed all manner of homes from the truly moderate in size to the very large over the years. Leahy’s standard philosophy is that all his clients, regardless of their budget, should achieve something more special than they could ever have imagined, that is their given right when engaging a sensitive, creative and skilled architectural designer.

Having conceived and built his own house, David is fully aware of the whole journey a client will go through during the design and ultimate build process on site. Because David has gone through this most essential process himself, indeed having acted as main contractor during his own new house build (Elysium House), David has the important knowledge and experience to successfully advise and carefully guide his clients through the whole complex process.

One thing which is obvious from the images within this website, is the serious attention to detail at every level from the design of the outside of the buildings to the interiors, which are all so carefully thought out and meticulously detailed. All of the ‘David Leahy Houses’ are full of natural light which is something he feels must be a priority in the creation of any new home, or indeed also the refurbishment of an existing older dwelling. David can, as these images clearly show, create all the fundamental interior Architectural Services design elements from the one off designs for ceilings, individual doors, architraves, skirtings, covings, built in woodwork, metalwork, railings, balustrade, staircase designs and so on. Leahy also pays specific attention to the relationship of the house with the garden, this outside inside union he believes is one of the most important aspects to successful house design. For this reason with all his commissions Leahy provides a landscape design to complement his buildings up to the planning stage. David is available to meet with all potential clients to discuss any future house designs they might require.
